A medical exam is important for your physical and emotional well being. You need to be examined and treated for possible external and internal injuries, possible pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

While you do not have to make a decision regarding prosecution at this time, the medical collection of evidence is important as soon after the assault as possible. (Be sure and take a change of clothing.)

  • As soon as possible, try to recall the details of the assault.

U.T. Permian Basin Police response to a sexual assault may be, but is not limited to the following - - -

  • Assist victim; call for medical assistance if needed.
  • Determine crime scene and secure scene if possible.
  • Collect and mark evidence.
  • Get written statement or report from examining physician.
  • Interview victim.
