Engineering Mechanical/Mechanical with Nuclear Emphasis/Nuclear Engineering

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin has received authority from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer the final two years of its four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering with an optional emphasis in Nuclear Engineering. With the assistance of a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for laboratory equipment purchases, UTPB has hired some faculty and is seeking more applicants in the fields of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor level.

UTPB and Los Alamos have a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to engage in collaborative research and development to refine and implement existing technologies and processes that have broad applicability to diverse alternative energy technologies. Engineering professors at UTPB will teach engineering courses, and will have the opportunity, through the CRADA, to obtain grants and collaborate with researchers from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Professors will also be encouraged to pursue independent research programs in engineering and contribute to the continuous expansion of the engineering program at UTPB.

The effort to expand science and engineering at UTPB is supported by recent renovations to the Tech building, a new $70 million Science and Technology building (currently under construction), and approximately $100 million in other campus building construction projects . Professors will be part of the UT System, with annual operating budget of almost $11 billion and a great deal of research potential. http://www.utsystem.edu/news/files/FastFacts2009.pdf
