The University of Texas of the Permian Basin invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of its School of Education. UT Permian Basin is a component institution of The University of Texas System with an enrollment of approximately 3,600 students, located in the Odessa-Midland metropolitan area, with a population of 240,000. The University serves West Texas with baccalaureate and masters programs through the School of Education, the School of Business, and the College of Arts and Sciences. UT Permian Basin has been designated as an Hispanic-serving Institution.
The UT Permian Basin School of Education has 1,200 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The School achieved full accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in October, 2007. A new doctoral program (Ed. D.) in Educational Leadership offered in cooperation with UT San Antonio will begin in the spring 2010 semester. The Dean is the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the School of Education and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean:
- Ensures the academic integrity of all educational programs;
- Encourages excellence in teaching, research, and service; and
- Oversees the fiscal well being of the School.
Successful candidates must:
- have an earned doctorate in an Education discipline and qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor
- have a record of excellence in teaching, research, and professional activity
- have administrative experience in higher education including experience in strategic planning, budget management, and academic program development
- have experience working in the public education environment
- have experience with NCATE accreditation
Other highly desirable attributes include experiences in:
- dealing with government and regulatory bodies as related to public schools and higher education
- securing partnerships with educational communities and other external constituents
- securing external funding for research and/or program development
- developing and implementing new programs that result in enrollment growth
- online learning
- promoting faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service
The School of Education is seeking a dynamic, energetic, visionary, and student-oriented Dean to provide leadership in meeting the challenges it and the University face. These challenges include a strong commitment to growth in a number of areas including student enrollment, research productivity and external funded activities, academic programs, programs aiding student academic success, quality as reflected in NCATE and specialized program accreditation, and diversity among the faculty and student body.
